Navua’s debut in the Pacific Community Cup ended in heartbreak as the team lost 2-1 to the AuFFI All Stars at Churchill Park in Lautoka. Despite a strong effort, the match became challenging early on when a defensive miscommunication led to an own goal by Kolinio Sivoki just five minutes into the game.
The AuFFI All Stars maintained their 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Navua demonstrated resilience and was awarded a penalty in the dying moments of injury time. Sivoki, seeking redemption, successfully converted the penalty to equalize the score. However, the excitement was short-lived as AuFFI responded quickly after the restart, with guest player Jalil Regague netting the decisive goal just before the final whistle.
Looking ahead, Navua will have the opportunity to bounce back as they take on the host team, Lautoka, in their next match scheduled for 8:15 PM tomorrow. The AuFFI All Stars will also be in action against the Manukau All Stars at 7 PM.
This competitive spirit exhibited by both teams showcases the thrilling nature of the Pacific Community Cup. Navua has the chance to learn from this experience and come back stronger in their upcoming match, which could be a pivotal moment for the team to establish their presence in the tournament.
