The Navua community is poised to experience a landmark occasion today with the inaugural Amateur Boxing competition taking place at Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School, organized by the newly established Kwaca Na Vatu Boxing Club.
With 25 bouts anticipated to highlight the skills and talents of local boxers, there is a palpable sense of excitement surrounding the event. Cam Todd, head coach of Fiji Amateur Boxing, has shared his enthusiasm for the sport’s growing presence in Navua, spurred by significant interest from local youth following a boxing clinic held earlier this year.
“The competition offers a platform for boxers to showcase their skills while also acting as a fundraiser for the new club,” Todd stated. “We expect between 25 to 35 fights, which is thrilling as it marks the first-ever Amateur Boxing competition in Navua.”
Todd is optimistic about the event’s success, hoping for a strong turnout from the crowd and an impressive demonstration of talent from young participants. “This Amateur Boxing competition in Navua is a pivotal moment for the sport. We also aim to extend to other communities nationwide for enhanced exposure and development of our boxers.”
The event embraces diversity by including both male and female boxers across various age categories. Additionally, boxers who recently participated in the Oceania games will compete, promising a display of skill and commitment from all involved.
Todd encourages the Navua community to come out and support their local club as they contribute to the resurgence of Amateur Boxing in Fiji.
