The Navua community is gearing up for a significant occasion today as it hosts its inaugural Amateur Boxing competition at Vashist Muni Memorial Primary School, organized by the newly formed Kwaca Na Vatu Boxing Club.
The event will feature 25 bouts, highlighting the skills and talents of local boxers, generating considerable anticipation among spectators.
Cam Todd, the head coach of Fiji Amateur Boxing, expressed his excitement about the sport’s growth in Navua, particularly following a boxing clinic earlier this year that sparked interest among youth in the area.
“This competition provides a platform for the boxers to showcase their talents while also serving as a fundraiser for the new club,” Todd stated. “We are hoping to see between 25 to 35 fights, and it’s exciting as it marks the first Amateur Boxing competition in Navua.”
Todd is optimistic about the event’s success and expects a strong turnout from the community along with a display of promising talent from young participants.
“The Amateur Boxing competition in Navua is a milestone for the sport, and we have plans to extend our reach to other communities across the nation to enhance exposure and development for the boxers.”
The competition will feature both male and female boxers across various age categories, adding to its diversity and appeal. Additionally, boxers who recently participated in the Oceania games will also compete, promising a display of skill and dedication from all involved.
Todd encourages the Navua community to come out and support the local club and the resurgence of Amateur Boxing in Fiji.
