Navosa’s Pine Transformation: A Greener Future Ahead

FIJI Pine Limited is making progress toward establishing Navosa as a fully developed pine resource base while expanding the new forest station.

The Navosa Pine Station was introduced in January as a joint initiative among village elders, the Ministry of Forestry, the Police, and Fiji Pine Limited. The aim is to enhance pine coverage in the area and reduce marijuana cultivation.

Josaia Ratatagia, the officer in charge at the Navosa station, reported that a significant pine restocking program is underway with assistance from Nabou Forest officers.

George Young, the officer in charge at the Nabou station, stated that his team would support Navosa in achieving their planting goals. “We have a plan to achieve a planting target of 88.0 hectares,” he said.

Senior managers from both Nabou and Navosa have devised a strategic plan for the major restocking project, which will involve three planting teams from Nasovotava, Nabou, and Vagadra traveling to Navosa next week. This team will support the two existing teams in enhancing the area’s restocking efforts and increasing manpower for the project.

“We have a tight timeframe of two weeks to meet our target, so we must adapt to the time constraints and current weather conditions,” Mr. Young added.

Additionally, they plan to deliver corrugated iron roofing and other camping supplies for the three teams in Navosa. Mr. Ratatagia and his team have also completed road improvements in preparation for the deployment of the pine restocking teams.
