Navosa’s New Pine Station: A Green Transformation in the Making?

FIJI Pine Limited is taking steps to develop Navosa into a fully operational base as it works on expanding its new forest station. This initiative, which began in January, involves collaboration between village elders, the Ministry of Forestry, the Police, and Fiji Pine Limited. The aim is to cover the area with pine trees while reducing the cultivation of marijuana.

Josaia Ratatagia, the officer in charge of the Navosa station, announced that a significant pine restocking program is underway with assistance from Nabou Forest officers. George Young, the officer in charge at the Nabou station, confirmed that his team is set to help Navosa reach its planting goal.

“We have a plan to achieve a planting target of 88 hectares,” Mr. Young stated. Senior managers from Nabou and Navosa have developed a strategic plan for this major restocking project, which includes sending three planting teams from Nasovotava, Nabou, and Vagadra to Navosa next week.

These teams will join the two existing teams in Navosa to enhance the region’s restocking efforts and manpower resources. “We only have two weeks to reach our planting goal, so we have to adjust according to the weather and timing,” Mr. Young added.

Additionally, plans are in place to deliver essential supplies, including corrugated iron roofing and camping materials for the three teams working in Navosa. Mr. Ratatagia and his team have also undertaken road work to prepare for the deployment of the pine restocking teams.
