Navosa Drug Raid: Woman Detained as Armed Suspect Flees on Horseback

Police have apprehended a woman while they actively search for a man who allegedly threatened officers during a drug raid in Navosa. The incident occurred yesterday when officers from the Western Division Operations executed a search warrant at a residence in Vunibota Settlement. During the operation, the male suspect, armed with a knife, reportedly threatened the officers before escaping on horseback.

The police uncovered nearly 2,000 dried plants wrapped in cloth, along with zip-lock bags containing dried leaves and seeds believed to be marijuana. The 48-year-old woman found at the property was taken into custody as investigations continue. The seized items have been sent for forensic analysis.

This raid is part of a broader initiative by law enforcement aimed at combating illegal drug activities across Fiji. Recent operations have led to numerous arrests for unlawful possession of both marijuana and methamphetamine throughout the country, including in various locations such as Labasa Market, Makoi, Kadavu, Ba, and Lautoka.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Kasiano Vusonilawe, stated that enforcement efforts will be intensified as the festive season approaches. He urged the public to assist the police by providing any information they may have regarding drug-related activities, emphasizing that such community cooperation is vital for enhancing public safety.

This proactive stance by the police not only illustrates their commitment to curbing drug trafficking but also represents a collective effort towards fostering a safer environment for all. Continued vigilance and engagement from the community can have a significant impact on reducing drug-related crimes, promoting a healthier society.
