The newly established $15 million Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies (PCMS) at Fiji National University (FNU) in Suva is set to elevate education, research, and innovation within the maritime sector. The focus will be on promoting sustainability and enhancing the Pacific Blue Economy.
During the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the center’s commitment to merging traditional navigation techniques with modern technological advancements, thus preparing emerging maritime leaders for the future.
FNU Vice Chancellor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba underscored the center’s alignment with national initiatives such as the Pacific Blue Ocean 2050 strategy, aiming to enhance global partnerships and update educational curriculums to better meet the demands of the industry.
The center is also forging partnerships, including collaborations with Fiji Water, to further support its mission.
This initiative promises to create significant opportunities for the maritime industry in the region, fostering sustainable practices and ensuring that future leaders are well-equipped for challenges ahead.
