Aviation ministers and stakeholders from several Pacific island countries are convening in Suva for the Third Regional Aviation Ministers Meeting (RAMM3), hosted by Fiji. The meeting aims to foster collaboration and endorse three critical documents for the development of the aviation and transport industry.
The Pacific Aviation Safety Organisation (PASO) highlighted that the three pivotal documents are:
1. The Pacific Regional Engagement Framework (PREF), which aims for a cohesive approach to achieving shared aviation objectives through diverse stakeholder contributions.
2. The Pacific Regional Aviation Action Plan (PRAAP), which serves as a dynamic framework ensuring the practical implementation of the Pacific Regional Aviation Strategy (PRAS).
3. The Suva Declaration on Strengthening Regional Partnership for Aviation Connectivity, emphasizing a collective commitment by ministers to advance a safe and resilient aviation sector.
Minister for Civil Aviation, Viliame Gavoka, noted the importance of bilateral meetings scheduled during RAMM3 to deepen collaboration among countries including Kiribati, Nauru, and Samoa. These discussions are crucial for addressing common challenges faced by the aviation sector.
During the meeting, topics such as enhancing regional air connectivity, improving aviation safety standards, promoting sustainable practices, and reinforcing regional cooperation will be central to the dialogue. Gavoka expressed optimism about the outcomes of RAMM3, stating that the exchange of ideas will significantly influence regional aviation business and partnerships.
The meeting began with a formal welcome from the Fiji Government, showcasing their commitment to a secure and sustainable aviation industry. The event is being officially opened by Tao Ma, the regional director of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Asia-Pacific Office, underscoring the importance of this collaborative effort.
This meeting not only represents an opportunity to address immediate challenges but also lays a foundation for future growth and innovation in the Pacific aviation sector, which is vital for enhancing connectivity and sustainable tourism in the region. The focus on collective action reflects a hopeful outlook for the Pacific’s aviation industry and its role in global connectivity and economic development.
