A Norwegian cruise liner is set to enter Fiji’s waters in March next year as part of a new collaboration with Fiji Airways. The national airline is expanding into the cruise sector, seeking partnerships with international cruise operators to enhance its air route offerings.
Fiji Airways’ CEO, Andre Viljoen, announced that the Norwegian cruise liner will travel from the United States to Cairns, Australia, and then make its way to Fiji. “The Norwegian cruise liner plans to depart from Cairns and head to Fiji,” Mr. Viljoen stated during his presentation at the Fiji Tourism Convention 2024 in Denarau, Nadi.
He mentioned that the itinerary will include several island destinations in Fiji, such as Savusavu, Taveuni, and Kadavu, before continuing on to Tahiti and returning to Cairns. “We will be bringing American travelers on the Norwegian liner from Cairns to Fiji,” he added, noting that Cairns is a significant stop for next year.
Mr. Viljoen indicated that this development signals increased competition for local hoteliers. He also highlighted that other international cruise lines, including Crystal Cruises, Silversea, Paul Gauguin Cruises, and Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours, are also exploring options to enter the region.
