The Nausori Education District held its inaugural awards night, celebrating the accomplishments of all 289 schools, which include 143 Early Childhood Education centers, 119 primary schools, and 27 notable secondary schools.
This unique event in Fiji acknowledged various achievements in academics, sports engagement, extracurricular activities, and health-promoting initiatives.
Marika Baleca, the Senior Education Advisor for the Nausori Education District, commended the teamwork among teachers, students, and parents for creating supportive environments that foster learning and personal development.
In an interview with Fiji One News, Baleca highlighted efforts to improve under-performing schools, referred to as Hope schools, aiming for academic excellence by next year. He noted that the number of these schools has reduced to 13.
Many schools expressed appreciation for the recognition, with several principals mentioning that the awards boosted morale for both students and staff. Rejnish Dayal, Vice Principal of Waidina College in Naitasiri, said, “People are motivated when they see rewards, and this is a commendable initiative.”
The awards night featured various categories recognizing schools that excelled in academics, sports, and other extracurricular activities, as well as those that actively promote health and wellness among students.
Baleca mentioned, “We are presenting numerous awards to schools achieving 100 percent in examinations. This is to enhance their morale and encourage them to strive for even greater accomplishments.”
The event celebrated the previous year’s successes while also aiming to inspire ongoing excellence and innovation in the educational field.
