As interest from investors grows in Nausori, the local municipal council is taking proactive steps to ensure that service delivery remains efficient amid the town’s expansion. Despite its development, Nausori is facing significant hurdles, including millions of dollars in unpaid rates, which has raised concerns about the sustainability of essential services.

The Nausori Town Council urges residents to clear their outstanding rates, highlighting that timely payment is crucial for maintaining services vital for the community. Rajesh Kumar, the Chief Executive Officer of the council, noted that ongoing engagement with ratepayers has led to a better understanding of the importance of these payments. “We have noticed time and again that there is a significant improvement in understanding by ratepayers on why this service is essential,” Kumar stated.

He emphasized the implications of delayed payments, stating, “If rates are not coming on time, services get disrupted. However, it’s our operating method that we are looking into.” This reflection shows the council’s recognition of the challenges and their commitment to finding ways to mitigate disruptions in services.

Supporting this perspective, Nausori market vendor Mohammed Isaq expressed appreciation for the council’s efforts, noting that the services provided at the market have been beneficial for vendors. “Usually, in this new market, they provide everything for us. We got everything here,” Isaq remarked, showcasing a positive relationship between the council and the marketplace.

The Nausori Town Council remains dedicated to collaborating with the community, fostering cooperation to ensure the continuity and sustainability of services in Nausori. By prioritizing communication and engagement with residents, the council hopes to overcome financial challenges and enhance the overall well-being of the town.
