Nationwide Crackdown: Marijuana Seizures Surge Ahead of Festive Season

Substances suspected to be marijuana were seized across all five policing divisions, thanks to enhanced information-sharing efforts.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Livai Driu, noted that drug operations are intensifying as the festive season approaches, aiming to disrupt and destabilize the supply chain.

Recently, raids in Savusavu led to the arrest of five individuals allegedly found with dried leaves thought to be marijuana.

In the Central Division, a man in his 50s was apprehended at a carrier stand, where he was reportedly found in possession of similar dried leaves.

Additionally, a man in his 20s was arrested along Mead Road in Nabua after authorities discovered several sachets of dried leaves, as well as a zip-lock bag containing seeds believed to be marijuana, along with another bag holding white crystals thought to be methamphetamine.

In the Western Division, police arrested an 18-year-old man in Sigatoka town for being found with over 50 dried branches and loose leaves believed to be marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized that police operations will also increase awareness initiatives within schools and communities. He highlighted that the collaborative information-sharing aligns well with law enforcement goals focused on reducing supply.
