A national sevens player, Kavekini Tanivanuakula, was arrested on Saturday night at the Nadi Temple checkpoint for suspected drink driving. After being charged, he has since been released, as confirmed by police spokesperson Wame Bautolu. Tanivanuakula is expected to appear before the Nadi Magistrate’s Court on February 17, 2025, for his initial hearing.

This incident comes shortly after Tanivanuakula made his debut for Fiji at the Dubai 7s earlier this month, helping the team secure their first SVNS title after a long stretch of 25 HSBC tournaments.

While this situation has garnered significant attention, it’s essential for Tanivanuakula to reflect on this incident moving forward, as both his career and personal choices will be under scrutiny. It is hoped that he will learn from this experience and continue to contribute positively to the sport and his community.

In summary, while this arrest is unfortunate for a rising sports star, there remains an opportunity for growth and redemption as he prepares for his court date and reflects on his recent achievements.
