The Natabua High School Under-18 girls rugby team is focused on enhancing their discipline and fundamental skills as they prepare for the upcoming Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy semi-final next week. This statement comes from NHS head coach Inoke Vucago following their decisive 41-0 victory over Nasinu Secondary School on Friday.
Vucago expressed the team’s determination to advance further than last year, when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals. “We are taking it one game at a time, as the players have put in significant preparation leading up to the quarterfinal,” he noted.
At halftime of the recent match, with a comfortable lead of 17-0, Vucago encouraged his players to increase their scoring. He emphasized that many of the players have experience competing in the Marama Championship for clubs in Nadi, Yasawa, and Lautoka, which has well-prepared them for the challenges of 40-minute rugby matches.
The coach acknowledged the need for an improved performance in the semi-final, stating, “I’m very proud of the players as they’ve trained hard and executed 80 percent of their game plan. They are eager for the win.” He dedicated the team’s success to the support of parents, teachers, and students at NHS.
Highlighting the team’s strengths, Vucago pointed out that their forwards have been dominant, while also mentioning the strength of their backline, indicating a well-rounded team.
