Defending champions Natabua High School’s Under-18 girls rugby team is gearing up for a challenging semi-final in the Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy after a hard-fought victory against Adi Cakobau School, which they won 12-5. Team manager Rigieta Radrodro acknowledges that the path to defending their title will be tougher, especially as they face the reigning champions, Dawasamu Secondary School from Tailevu, in the upcoming match.

Radrodro emphasizes the importance of focusing on the basics and intensifying preparations as the competition progresses, as the game of rugby continues to evolve. She expressed pride in the team’s performance, stating, “They came out here and they delivered, and I know they made Lautoka proud.” Her gratitude extends to the school’s supporters, including students, staff, and alumni, for their unwavering support.

The Natabua team, which is the only representative from their school to make it to the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Raluve finals this year, aspires to leave a significant mark in the semi-final, promising an exhilarating display of talent and determination. The upcoming match, set to occur at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, will be a vital test of their skills and unity as they strive for a spot in the finals.

This resurgence of talent and commitment in high school rugby reflects the growing enthusiasm and support for the sport in the region, hinting at a bright future for these young athletes. The dedication shown by players and the backing from their community underline the positive impact of sports in fostering resilience and teamwork among youth.
