The Natabua High School Under-18 girls rugby team aims to enhance their discipline and fundamental skills as they prepare for the Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy semi-final next week. This statement came from head coach Inoke Vucago following their impressive 41-0 victory over Nasinu Secondary School on Friday.
Vucago noted that the team is determined to surpass last year’s quarterfinal exit. “We came back this year hungry, aiming to go further than the quarterfinal,” he explained.
He emphasized a one-game-at-a-time approach for the players, who had adequately prepared before the quarterfinal match. After leading 17-0 at halftime, Vucago encouraged the team to continue scoring.
The majority of the players have experience in the Marama Championship, participating in clubs from Nadi, Yasawa, and Lautoka in the under-20 category, which has adequately prepared them for 40-minute rugby games.
Looking ahead, Vucago acknowledged that the team must deliver an improved performance in the semi-final. “I’m very proud of the players; they’ve trained hard and executed 80 percent of their game plan. Their hunger for victory was evident,” he stated.
He dedicated the recent win to the parents, teachers, and students of Natabua High School. Vucago also highlighted the team’s strengths, noting that their forwards have been dominant, while the backline maintains a solid balance.
