The Natabua High School Under-18 girls rugby team aims to enhance their discipline and fundamental skills as they prepare for the Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy semi-final next week. This was highlighted by NHS head coach Inoke Vucago in an interview following their impressive 41-0 victory over Nasinu Secondary School on Friday.
“We were knocked out in the quarterfinals last year, and this time we are determined to progress further,” Vucago stated. He emphasized the importance of focusing on one game at a time as the team had prepared rigorously before the quarterfinals.
Vucago instructed his players to increase their score during halftime, with the team already leading 17-0. He noted that many of the players have been involved in the Marama Championship with Nadi, Yasawa, and Lautoka under-20 clubs, giving them substantial experience in 40-minute matches.
Looking ahead to the semi-final, Vucago remarked that an improved performance would be crucial. “I’m very proud of the players; they have trained diligently and executed 80 percent of our game plan. Their desire for victory was evident,” he said.
He dedicated the win to the parents, teachers, and students of NHS. Vucago acknowledged that the team’s biggest strength lies in their forwards, who have shown dominance, complemented by a robust backline that provides balance to the squad.
