The Natabua High School Under-18 girls rugby team is focused on enhancing their discipline and fundamental skills as they prepare for the upcoming Weet-Bix Raluve Trophy semi-final next week. This statement came from NHS head coach Inoke Vucago following their impressive 41-0 victory over Nasinu Secondary School last Friday.
Vucago expressed the team’s determination to progress further than last year’s quarterfinal exit, stating, “We lost in the quarterfinal last year and we came back this year hungry trying to get further than the quarterfinal.” He emphasized the importance of taking each game one at a time, noting that the players had adequately prepared ahead of the quarterfinal.
At halftime, while leading 17-0, Vucago encouraged his players to increase their points tally. He highlighted that many of the team members have experience from playing in the Marama Championship for the under-20 clubs in Nadi, Yasawa, and Lautoka, which has equipped them well for the 40-minute game format.
Looking ahead to the semi-final, Vucago acknowledged the need for an improved performance. He praised the team’s hard work, stating, “I’m very proud of the players as they’ve trained hard and done 80 percent of their game plan. They were hungry for the win.”
Vucago dedicated the victory to the parents, teachers, and students of NHS and noted, “Our biggest strength is our forwards as you can notice that they have been dominant, but we also have a strong backline, so there is a balance.”
