Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova is setting his sights on capturing the series title next year. The Toge, Ba native recently celebrated a significant achievement as part of the team that claimed the HSBC SVNS title after 25 tournaments, a victory he described as gratifying and indicative of the team’s strong collaboration.
At just 26 years old, Nasova’s journey in rugby has been impressive. He made a notable debut at the Hong Kong Sevens just four months after representing Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. His talent earned him a spot on the silver medal-winning team at the Paris Olympic Games in July, under the guidance of coach Osea Kolinisau.
In reflecting on his achievements, Nasova expressed profound gratitude, attributing his success to divine support. He emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating, “Next year we aim to win the series and we can only do that if we learn and work collectively.” His commitment to discipline, both on and off the field, has been a key factor in his growth as an athlete.
Nasova’s rise in rugby has been particularly meaningful for him, especially as he is the primary supporter for his family. He noted, “I did not complete high school or have a job, so I gave my all to rugby and it has brought me this far,” highlighting the sport’s transformative impact on his life.
Moreover, his brother, Iliavi Masori, is also part of the national sevens extended squad, showcasing the family’s deep connection to the sport as they both showcased their skills at the Pacific Games.
The men’s sevens team is currently enjoying a two-week break before they regroup in January to begin preparations for the Perth Sevens scheduled for January 24-26.
This positive narrative showcases the potential for growth and success not only in sports but also in personal circumstances, serving as an inspiration for many. The upcoming tournament presents an exciting opportunity for Nasova and his team to continue building on their recent successes.
