Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova is determined to achieve a series title with his team in the upcoming year. The native of Toge, Ba, played a vital role in their recent victory of the HSBC SVNS title after participating in 25 tournaments. Nasova expressed that the triumph was deeply satisfying, crediting their success to excellent teamwork.
At just 26 years old, he made a significant impact during his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens, which came four months after first representing Fiji in the 2023 Pacific Games held in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Following that, he was selected by coach Osea Kolinisau to be part of the squad that won a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games in July.
Reflecting on his accomplishments, Nasova humbly acknowledged the blessings he has received, stating, “I can only thank God for all He has provided for me.” Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of unity and learning from one another, noting, “Next year we aim to win the series and we can only do that if we learn and work collectively.” He also appreciated the discipline instilled in their training, both on and off the field.
Nasova shared a personal insight about his journey, revealing that he did not finish high school and lacked employment opportunities, so he dedicated himself fully to rugby, which enabled him to support his family. He also highlighted that he and his brother Iliavi Masori, who was part of the national sevens extended squad, had the privilege of playing together at the Pacific Games.
The men’s sevens team will take a two-week break before resuming training in January for the upcoming Perth 7s scheduled for January 24-26.
This inspiring story resonates with many aspiring athletes, showcasing that dedication and perseverance can lead to significant achievements, even in the face of challenges. As Nasova continues to pursue his goals, his journey serves as a beacon of hope for those seeking to make their mark in sports.
