Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova is optimistic about his team’s chances of clinching the series title next year. Hailing from Toge, Ba, Nasova contributed to the squad that won the HSBC SVNS title after participating in 25 tournaments, an experience he described as immensely rewarding due to their strong teamwork.

At just 26 years old, Nasova’s career has quickly ascended, marked by his effective tackling skills that earned him a spot in the prestigious Hong Kong sevens, only four months after representing Fiji at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. This journey continued as he was later selected by coach Osea Kolinisau to join the team that secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games in July.

Expressing his gratitude, Nasova emphasized the role of discipline and collective effort in achieving their goals, stating, “Next year we aim to win the series. We can only do that if we learn and work collectively.” He shared reflections on how rugby has played a crucial role in supporting his family, acknowledging that he had no formal job or completed high school, thus committing fully to the sport.

Nasova’s journey is further highlighted by familial ties, as his brother, Iliavi Masori, also joined the national sevens extended squad, demonstrating a shared passion for rugby.

As the men’s sevens team takes a two-week break, they will regroup in January to prepare for the upcoming Perth 7s scheduled for January 24-26, signifying a fresh chapter in their season.

This article underscores the profound impact of sports not only on individual journeys but also on families and communities, instilling hope and inspiration. Nasova’s story is an encouraging reminder of how dedication and teamwork can lead to remarkable achievements.
