After a 12-year wait, the Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced past the quarterfinals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy. Coach Semisi Yasiyasi noted that the last time they reached this stage was in 2012. This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College in the semifinal at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium, following their narrow victory against Tailevu North College, winning 17-13 in the quarterfinal match.

Yasiyasi praised the hard work and dedication of his players, acknowledging the sacrifices they made to achieve this milestone. Although the team is confident, they have chosen to remain humble as they prepare for their upcoming challenge. He emphasized that Cuvu College poses a significant challenge, having recently upset Ratu Kadavulevu School 23-22.

“This week, we will focus on perfecting certain aspects of our game,” Yasiyasi stated. Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has been known for nurturing outstanding rugby talents, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete. Yasiyasi has also reached out to former scholars, parents, and guardians to garner support for the pivotal semifinal match.
