The Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced to the Vodafone Deans Trophy semifinals for the first time in 12 years. Coach Semisi Yasiyasi noted that the last time the team reached this stage was in 2012.
This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College in the semifinals at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Nasinu secured their spot by defeating Tailevu North College 17-13 in the quarterfinals.
Yasiyasi expressed pride in the team’s hard work and dedication, pointing out that the players made significant sacrifices. Despite their confidence, he emphasized the importance of staying humble.
Looking ahead, Yasiyasi acknowledged the challenge posed by Cuvu College, who recently triumphed over Ratu Kadavulevu School with a close score of 23-22. He mentioned that this week will focus on refining key aspects of their gameplay.
Historically, Nasinu Secondary School has been a breeding ground for elite rugby talent, producing players such as Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete.
Yasiyasi has appealed to former students, parents, and guardians for support as the team prepares for the crucial semifinal match.
