The Nasinu Women’s Rugby team has established itself as a formidable competitor in the Fiji Sports Council’s Under-20 7s tournament, making it to their fifth final after a solid 10-0 win against the Lilian Amazon team in the semi-finals.
Head coach Tomasi Katonivualiku shared insights into the team’s impressive journey, noting their consistent performance throughout the tournament. They achieved victories in the Nadroga, Savusavu, and Rakiraki legs, and narrowly missed out on a top finish in Thompson Park in Navua, where they finished as runners-up. “We took every match one at a time, coming in slowly and working through all our matches,” Katonivualiku explained.
Although some players have moved on to the national team in Dubai or switched to Rugby League, the emergence of new talent has only strengthened the team’s dynamics. “We have a few new girls that joined the team this year because some of our players were chosen for the national team, and we are fortunate that these girls volunteered to be part of this team,” he added.
The dedication and hard work evident in the players’ training sessions have fostered a strong sense of confidence among the team, setting them up for a promising final match ahead.
Overall, the Nasinu Women’s Rugby team’s resilience and adaptability in the face of transitions reflect the spirit of sportsmanship, highlighting the importance of teamwork and perseverance in achieving continued success. With the final match on the horizon, fans and supporters will be eager to see how their journey unfolds further.
