The Nasinu Women’s Rugby team has established itself as a formidable competitor in the Fiji Sports Council’s under-20 7s tournament, successfully reaching their fifth final after a solid 10-0 win against the Lilian Amazon team in the semi-finals.
Head coach Tomasi Katonivualiku praised the team’s impressive performance, highlighting their consistent victories throughout the tournament, including wins in the Nadroga, Savusavu, and Rakiraki legs, and a second-place finish in Thompson Park in Navua.
Katonivualiku noted the team’s strategy of taking each match one step at a time, which has contributed to their ongoing success. Even with some players moving on to the national team in Dubai or pursuing Rugby League opportunities, the arrival of fresh talent has enhanced the team’s overall strength and unity.
“We have few new girls that joined the team this year due to player transitions, and we are fortunate that they have stepped up to be part of our squad,” said Katonivualiku. He emphasized the pivotal role of hard work and dedication during training sessions in building the players’ confidence and enhancing their performance on the field.
This journey illustrates the resilience and spirit of the Nasinu Women’s Rugby team, showcasing how they are not only growing in skill but also in teamwork and camaraderie. As they prepare for the final, expectations are high, and there is a sense of hope for continuing their success in the sport.
Overall, the Nasinu Women’s Rugby team exemplifies what can be achieved through determination and teamwork, setting a hopeful precedent for future athletes in Fiji.
