After 12 years, the Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has reached the Vodafone Deans Trophy semifinals. The last time they advanced past the quarterfinals was in 2012. This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, following a narrow victory against Tailevu North College, where they won 17-13.
Coach Semisi Yasiyasi praised the team’s dedication and hard work that brought them to this stage. He emphasized the sacrifices made by the players, highlighting their confidence while maintaining humility. Yasiyasi acknowledged that they will face a strong opponent in Cuvu College, who recently defeated Ratu Kadavulevu School 23-22.
As the team prepares for the semifinal, Yasiyasi indicated that they will focus on improving certain aspects of their game. The school has a history of producing notable rugby talent, including players like Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former French international Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete.
He has called upon former students, parents, and guardians to support the team in their upcoming match.
