The Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has reached the semifinals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy, marking the first time in 12 years they have advanced past the quarterfinals. Coach Semisi Yasiyasi noted that their last appearance in the semifinals was in 2012.

This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will take on Cuvu College at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium, following their narrow 17-13 victory over Tailevu North College in the quarterfinals.

Yasiyasi emphasized that the team’s progress is a result of hard work and dedication. “The boys have made sacrifices, and while they are confident, they have chosen to remain humble,” he stated.

He acknowledged that Cuvu College presents a strong challenge, having recently defeated Ratu Kadavulevu School 23-22. To prepare, the team will focus on refining specific aspects of their game this week.

Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has produced several notable rugby players, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete.

Yasiyasi has reached out to former students, parents, and guardians to rally support for the upcoming semifinal match.
