After a 12-year wait, the Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced past the Vodafone Deans Trophy quarterfinals. Coach Semisi Yasiyasi noted that the last time the team reached this stage was in 2012.

This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College in the Deans Trophy semifinal at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, following a narrow 17-13 victory over Tailevu North College in the quarterfinal.

Yasiyasi expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, attributing their success to hard work and dedication. He recognized the sacrifices the players have made and emphasized the importance of remaining humble amid their confidence.

The upcoming match poses a challenge, as they will face a strong opponent in Cuvu College, who recently defeated Ratu Kadavulevu School with a close score of 23-22. Yasiyasi mentioned that this week the team will focus on refining certain aspects of their game.

Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has produced many notable rugby players, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete. Yasiyasi has encouraged former students, parents, and guardians to rally their support for the semifinal match.
