The Nasinu Town Council has initiated a forensic audit to tackle pressing concerns regarding financial mismanagement under previous administrations. Council Executive Chairman Felix Magnus revealed that this audit will scrutinize financial records from 2018 to 2020, prompted by alarming findings in the Auditor General’s reports highlighting potential misuse of Council funds.

Magnus addressed the Public Accounts Committee, emphasizing the Council’s dedication to accountability and ethical governance. He stated, “We are here to set things right. The misappropriation of millions has compromised essential services, and the people of Nasinu have suffered.” He assured that the forthcoming audit aims to reveal the full scope of these issues and that necessary measures will be implemented to prevent recurrence.

Supported by the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Finance, the forensic audit will concentrate on critical areas such as cash controls, payroll, asset management, project oversight, and regulatory compliance. Magnus expressed confidence that this effort will lay a robust foundation for financial integrity in the Council’s future operations.

“Our objective is to finally secure an Unqualified Opinion on Nasinu’s accounts, and we are working relentlessly to achieve that,” Magnus declared. He also mentioned that any identified cases of mismanagement will be escalated to the appropriate authorities, including the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for further investigation.

This proactive approach by the Nasinu Town Council not only aims to rectify past financial discrepancies but also seeks to foster a culture of transparency and accountability in public service. By addressing these critical issues head-on, the Council demonstrates a commitment to restoring public trust and ensuring that vital services are effectively delivered to the community.

In summary, the Nasinu Town Council’s audit signifies a transformative step towards enhancing financial governance and accountability, providing hope for a more reliable and transparent future for all residents.
