The Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced to the semifinals of the Vodafone Deans Trophy for the first time in 12 years. The team’s coach, Semisi Yasiyasi, noted that their last appearance beyond the quarterfinals was in 2012.
This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva after securing a narrow 17-13 victory over Tailevu North College in the quarterfinals.
Yasiyasi praised his players for their hard work and dedication. He acknowledged the sacrifices the team has made and expressed their confidence while emphasizing the importance of humility.
Cuvu College, their semifinal opponent, previously pulled off a surprising win against Ratu Kadavulevu School with a score of 23-22, which Yasiyasi noted as a testament to their quality.
In preparation for the upcoming match, the coach mentioned that they would focus on refining specific aspects of their game. Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has produced numerous prominent rugby players, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete.
Yasiyasi has also reached out to former students of Nasinu Secondary School, along with parents and guardians, urging them to support the team in the semifinal.
