The Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has reached the Vodafone Deans Trophy semifinals for the first time in 12 years. Their last appearance in the semifinals was in 2012. This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, following their victory over Tailevu North College with a score of 17-13 in the quarterfinals.
Coach Semisi Yasiyasi expressed pride in the team’s achievements, attributing their success to hard work and dedication. He noted the sacrifices made by the players and emphasized their commitment to staying humble despite their confidence.
Yasiyasi acknowledged the challenge posed by Cuvu College, who recently defeated Ratu Kadavulevu School 23-22. He mentioned that the team would focus on refining specific aspects of their game in preparation for the upcoming match.
Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has produced notable rugby talents, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete. Yasiyasi has urged former students, parents, and supporters to rally behind the team as they prepare for the semifinal.
