Nasinu Rugby Team Breaks 12-Year Quarterfinal Drought!

After 12 years, the Nasinu Secondary School Under-18 rugby team has advanced past the Vodafone Deans Trophy quarterfinals. Coach Semisi Yasiyasi noted that the last time the team reached this stage was in 2012.

This Saturday, the Southern Zone champions will compete against Cuvu College in the Deans Trophy semifinal at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. They secured their spot by defeating Tailevu North College 17-13 in the quarterfinal.

Yasiyasi praised the team’s hard work and dedication, stating, “For the boys to make it to this stage is through sheer hard work and dedication.” He emphasized that while the team is confident, they have chosen to remain humble and acknowledge the sacrifices made.

He also acknowledged the quality of the competition, as Cuvu College recently upset Ratu Kadavulevu School with a narrow 23-22 victory. Yasiyasi mentioned that this week the team would focus on refining specific areas of their gameplay.

Over the years, Nasinu Secondary School has produced prominent rugby players, including Lemeki Koroi, Setareki Tawake, former France winger Virimi Vakatawa, Sakeo Raloa, and current Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete.

Yasiyasi has called upon former students of Nasinu Secondary School, as well as parents and guardians, to lend their support for the upcoming semifinal match.
