The Tribal Risk Nasinu Grassroots Volleyball competition is intensifying in its third round at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, as teams compete fiercely for significant cash prizes—$5,000 for the men’s category and $2,000 for the women’s category. This event, which began as a community gathering, has evolved into a serious competition that rivals professional standards, with club president Matai Daulako highlighting the noticeable increase in competitive spirit.

Daulako remarked on the impact of the monetary incentives, saying, “A $5,000 prize for a men’s grassroots win is a massive motivator.” He further explained that the funding not only fuels the competitive drive but also provides essential resources for local clubs, enabling them to invest in better equipment and training facilities.

Teams such as Vesida One, Team Fire, Drifters, Highway, and Easternville are demonstrating impressive determination as they take on the leading competitors in the tournament. The Nasinu core teams are on a “revenge tour” following a recent defeat in the Vulaca Championship, aiming to reclaim their dominance on their home turf during the Vanua Challenge.

The venues utilized for the competition, including the HFC Bank Stadium and the FMF Gymnasium, have been provided by the Fiji Sports Council, contributing to a world-class playing environment. This infrastructure encourages players to elevate their performance while placing the sport in the public eye.

The grassroots volleyball competition is set to run until March, with the excitement building toward its final round, round nine. The event not only fosters local talent but also strengthens community ties through sportsmanship and shared enthusiasm.
