Nasinu lifted the men’s division trophy at the Fiji Volleyball Federation National Championships on Saturday night, edging hosts Suva in a hard-fought three-set final at Vodafone Arena in Suva. The visitors recovered from dropping the opening set to prevail two sets to one, capping three days of competition that drew the country’s leading club sides to the capital.
Nasinu captain Simione Sivo said the victory came against a “formidable” Suva side and underlined the importance of composure when the match turned against them early. After losing the first set, Sivo recalled urging his teammates to regroup and stick to their game plan, a change that proved decisive as Nasinu took the next two sets to clinch the title. He dedicated the win to families in the Nasinu area and to the team’s management for their preparation and support, saying the triumph was a community effort.
The men’s final provided a tense, competitive finish to the national championships, with momentum swinging both ways before Nasinu secured the decisive plays. Suva’s performance nevertheless earned individual recognition: Jimmy of Suva was named the men’s division most valuable player for his consistent impact throughout the tournament.
In the women’s competition, Suva Women were crowned champions after a straight-sets victory over Lautoka, winning the final 2-0. Suva’s Eka Tabakaucoro received the women’s division MVP award for her performances across the three days, anchoring Suva’s attack and helping deliver the title on home soil.
The Fiji Volleyball Federation staged the event across the Easter period at Vodafone Arena, providing a showcase for club talent and a late-season competitive test for players. Tournament organisers and team officials hailed the finals for their quality and competitiveness, highlighting the depth of volleyball talent across the islands.
This result marks the latest development in a busy local sports calendar and will shape preparations for club and representative programmes in the coming months. Nasinu’s comeback victory and Suva’s doubles in the women’s final and individual MVP honours underline strong club programmes and set up new narratives to watch as the volleyball season progresses.
