Nasinu Council Unveils Ambitious Plans for Elderly Care and Child Services

The Nasinu Town Council is planning to construct a retirement home for the elderly and a modern childcare facility aimed at supporting single mothers. Council chairman Felix Magnus announced that funds collected during the 2024 Nasinu Festival will help finance these projects.

Magnus acknowledged the need for a retirement home and indicated that a suitable piece of land has already been secured. “The council has proposed to build the first retirement home in Nasinu to care for our senior citizens who cannot rely on their families,” he stated. He also mentioned that they would be seeking the necessary approvals from the Ministry of Lands before proceeding with discussions with stakeholders.

Currently, the Housing Assistance and Relief Trust (HART) is providing temporary accommodations for the Old People’s Home in Nasinu. Magnus admitted that the council has not fulfilled its obligations to support this facility adequately. Therefore, a portion of the funds will also be allocated for renovating the existing elderly home and equipping it with essential items such as wheelchairs, proper beds, and lighting.

With an increasing number of single mothers in the area, the proposed childcare facility aims to address the issue of children being left without supervision while their parents are at work. “When they are at work, who looks after their kids at home? By building this facility, their children can be cared for while they provide for their families,” he explained.

Magnus reiterated the council’s dedication to sustaining initiatives that aim to reduce poverty in the community.
