Rupeni Nasiga, the victorious coach of the SKIPPER Cup, has been appointed to lead the Skipper XV Select team, which is set to compete against the Fijian Drua on February 6, 2026, at Churchill Park in Lautoka. This matchup will feature elite talent from provincial unions around the nation, providing a valuable platform for showcasing skill, depth, and a strong passion for rugby.
The upcoming fixture is an essential opportunity for provincial players to gauge their performances against the high standards required in Super Rugby. Among the selected players is Anare Tabakaucoro, the 2024 Deans winner and former captain of the Queen Victoria School under-18 team; he will represent the Tailevu Rugby Union as its sole player in the squad.
Nasiga has included six members from his championship-winning team: Isaia Rugu, Aminiasi Naituyaga, Joseva Tamata, Esala Nalobo, Tomasi Tawake, and Douglas Daveta. Additionally, the Suva rugby representation includes fullback Ponipate Tuberi and players Onisimo Nawalu, Nadidi Taginiselala, Josefa Nasaroa, and Joeli Nainoca.
The Nadroga contingent comprises Aisake Atani, Nedley Grant, Malikeli Matanisiga, Sakiusa Vosayaco, and Meli Buinimasi. Meanwhile, the Naitasiri Rugby Union is represented by hooker Seremaia Komailevuka, along with players Michael Ferei, Marika Natau, Ro Kaveni Seru, Napolioni Batimala, Etonia Rokotuisawa, Iliesa Bete, and winger Sakaraia Sokonakalou.
Also joining the squad are towering lock Isaia Lotawa from Ba rugby, Macuata number 8 Ravuama Tuimacou, and Lautoka inside centre Apimeleki Nasalo, highlighting the rich rugby talent spread across Fiji. This innovative showcase of provincial talent promises to foster growth and development in the sport while bridging the gap to higher levels of competition.
