The Naqarani Rugby Club has kicked off the season strongly with two consecutive victories in the FMF Suva Rugby Union Escott Shield competition. In their opening round, Naqarani defeated Draunibau with a score of 28-15, followed by a solid performance against Central Brothers, winning 21-9.

Isimeli Radrodro, the team manager, highlighted the club’s broader mission, emphasizing that it serves as a platform for local youth to engage in sports and steer clear of criminal activities. “This team is comprised of very young boys, and we’ve seen a significant change in their attitudes and lifestyles since we joined the competition three years ago,” Radrodro remarked, expressing pride in the team’s development and the new opportunities presented to the players.

As they move forward, the team’s objective is to excel in their group stages and secure a place in the quarter-finals. “We approach every game with the mindset that it is a final for us,” Radrodro stated, noting the team’s focus on improving their defense ahead of their next match against QVS OB, a team he recognized as particularly strong.

In other rugby action, notable results in the competition included a 35-7 victory for FA & Co Eastern Saints over RKS OB, and several closely contested matches in both the Koroturaga and Escott Shield divisions.

This uplifting performance by Naqarani and the dedication to community-building demonstrate the positive impact of rugby in promoting healthier lifestyles among youths in the region. As the competition progresses, the team’s spirit and commitment promise an exciting journey ahead.
