A 43-year-old man, Samuela Salusalu, who is accused of the fatal assault on 16-year-old Salote Sikiti in Naqali Village earlier this month, has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. This decision was made by Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola during a court appearance yesterday. The magistrate expressed concerns regarding Mr. Salusalu’s mental state at the time of the alleged offense and mandated a full assessment.
The court proceedings revealed that Mr. Salusalu will remain in custody while investigations continue, with the case adjourned until January 5, 2026, for further mention. The tragic incident reportedly took place as Sikiti was returning home from a shop, where she was allegedly attacked with a cane knife, resulting in severe injuries that led to her untimely death.
As the legal process moves forward, no plea has been entered by the accused pending the outcome of the psychiatric report. This development underscores the importance of assessing the mental health of individuals involved in serious criminal allegations, a step aimed at ensuring justice is served appropriately.
