The Vashist Muni Memorial School grounds were alive with enthusiasm on Thursday as the Namosi Athletics Association’s Zone kicked off. This two-day event highlighted the athletic prowess of youth, allowing them to compete for a chance to represent Namosi in the forthcoming National Primary Athletics Competition scheduled for November 27-28.

Manoa Puamau, the association’s president, shared his joy over the increased participation this year, noting that five schools and about 300 athletes took part, a notable rise from three schools and roughly 200 athletes in 2023. He remarked, “Only five schools are participating, an increase of two schools as last year only three schools participated and represented Namosi in Lautoka.”

This revival of athletics is particularly significant for many young competitors, as Namosi’s engagement in the sport returned last year after a decade-long break.

This event not only fosters athletic talent but also promotes community spirit and sportsmanship among the youth, giving them an opportunity to connect and showcase their abilities on a larger stage.

In summary, the Namosi athletics event serves as a platform for young athletes to shine and represents a positive step forward for the community’s involvement in sports. As participation continues to grow, we can expect to see even more talented athletes emerge from Namosi in the future. This renewed interest in athletics promises a vibrant future for sports in the region.
