The grounds of Vashist Muni Memorial School were filled with joyous energy on Thursday as the Namosi Athletics Association’s Zone event kicked off. This two-day celebration showcased impressive athletic talent, with young competitors vying for the opportunity to represent Namosi at the upcoming National Primary Athletics Competition scheduled for November 27-28.

Manoa Puamau, the president of the association, expressed his enthusiasm over the significant surge in participation this year, noting that five schools and around 300 athletes were involved, a rise from the previous year, which saw only three schools and about 200 athletes.

“It’s great to see more schools participating, as last year only three schools represented Namosi in Lautoka,” Puamau remarked.

For many young athletes, this event marks a return to athletics, as Namosi has resumed its involvement in the sport after a decade-long break, reintroducing a passion for competition and camaraderie among the youth.

This year’s increased participation not only reflects the growing interest in athletics but also fosters a sense of community and sportsmanship. The revival of the Namosi Zone is a positive sign for the future of athletics in the region, giving young athletes a platform to hone their skills and pursue their dreams.
