The Vashist Muni Memorial School hosted a lively atmosphere on Thursday as the Namosi Athletics Association’s Zone event kicked off. This two-day event showcased the athletic prowess of young competitors vying for a chance to represent Namosi at the upcoming National Primary Athletics Competition scheduled for November 27-28.

Manoa Puamau, the president of the Association, highlighted the impressive growth in participation this year, with around 300 athletes from five schools, a significant increase from three schools and 200 athletes last year. “Only five schools are participating, an increase of two schools since last year when only three schools took part and represented Namosi in Lautoka,” he noted.

This year’s event marks a revitalization of athletics in Namosi, as the region has recommitted to the sport after more than a decade of absence, with participation having restarted in 2022.

This increase in enthusiasm and competition is encouraging for the future of athletics in the region. The young athletes are not only gaining skills but also building camaraderie and spirit through this vibrant event. The renewed focus on athleticism can help inspire a new generation of athletes from Namosi, nurturing talent that could shine on bigger platforms.

The ongoing support and eagerness to participate hint at a bright future for athletics in Namosi, creating opportunities for the youth to excel and thrive in sports.
