Joyful cheers and bright smiles permeated the grounds of Vashist Muni Memorial School on Thursday as the Namosi Athletics Association kicked off its Zone competition. This two-day event provided a lively platform for young athletes to display their talents as they vie for the opportunity to represent Namosi at the National Primary Athletics Competition scheduled for November 27-28.
President of the Association, Manoa Puamau, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the significant rise in participation this year. A total of five schools and around 300 athletes were involved, marking an increase from just three schools and approximately 200 participants in 2023.
Puamau noted, “Only five schools are participating, an increase of two schools from last year, where only three schools competed and represented Namosi in Lautoka.”
For many of these budding athletes, this competition signifies a renewed connection to athletics, with Namosi’s involvement in the sport resuming last year after a decade-long break.
This event not only fosters sportsmanship and physical fitness among the youth but also reinvigorates community spirit and pride in Namosi’s athletic capabilities. The growth in participation is a testament to the hard work put into revitalizing the region’s athletic programs, promising brighter futures for the young competitors.
Summary: The Namosi Athletics Association’s Zone competition at Vashist Muni Memorial School featured an impressive turnout of around 300 young athletes from five schools, marking a significant increase from the previous year. The event is pivotal for athletes aiming to qualify for the National Primary Athletics Competition while also reviving interest in athletics in the Namosi region after a decade.
