Plans are being made to enhance the Namoli seawall in Lautoka, ensuring local residents are safeguarded against rising sea levels, according to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. During his visit to Namoli village on Saturday, Mr. Rabuka received updates about the seawall project.
“The seawall, which spans 440 meters along the shoreline, is increasingly struggling to protect the village against coastal erosion,” Mr. Rabuka explained. He noted that during high tides, seawater often breaches the village, posing challenges for the community.
Over the years, these issues have significantly impacted the residents of Namoli. Mr. Rabuka expressed his gratitude to the Divisional Engineer for providing valuable insights into the structural problems that the seawall is facing.
This proactive approach toward upgrading the seawall showcases a commitment to climate resilience and community well-being, offering hope for the future of Namoli and its residents. By taking decisive action, the government aims to create a safer environment while addressing the pressing challenges of climate change.
