The residents of Namara village in Ra welcomed Ratu Josaia Niudamu, the newly appointed Assistant Minister for Justice, in a traditional ceremony during his first official visit for a consultation meeting on Monday. This event was part of the Liwativale District consultation, where village elders showed their appreciation for having a government representative engage with them, highlighting the community’s eagerness for governmental involvement.

Ratu Niudamu, who assumed office just last Friday, expressed his surprise and gratitude upon receiving such a warm reception. He stated, “I arrived for the Liwativale District consultation, and I didn’t expect to be showered with this welcome by the elders of the village.” His background as both a lawyer and a chief from Ra adds to his insight as he begins his public service journey.

Niudamu brings more than a decade of legal experience, having served with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution and running his own practice, Niudamu Lawyers. He began his political career with the FijiFirst party but has since aligned himself with the coalition known as the Group of 9 (G9), which supports the government led by Prime Minister Siromi Turaga.

Looking ahead, Ratu Niudamu has expressed commitment to assist Minister Turaga with the ongoing governmental frameworks in the lead-up to the next elections, hinting at potential political aspirations of his own. His proactive approach and dedication to improving governance and community relations signal a hopeful outlook for his term in office.

This visit not only reinforces the relationship between the government and the community but also fosters optimism about Ratu Niudamu’s intentions to address the needs of local citizens. The enthusiastic reception and engagement from the villagers indicate a shared commitment to building a better future for all Fijians through collaboration and open dialogue with their leaders.
