A devastating fire at Tri-Dees Spare Parts’ warehouse on Beddoes Circle in Namaka, Nadi, has resulted in an estimated loss of nearly $20 million due to structural damage and destroyed assets. The incident occurred yesterday, with company manager Shivan Gounder being alerted to the flames around 12:50 PM by a concerned friend.
According to Mr. Gounder, the fire began outside the building and quickly spread, overwhelming the warehouse before firefighters could arrive. “We called the National Fire Authority, but perhaps they were attending another incident,” he noted. Although the team reached the scene approximately thirty minutes later, it was unfortunately too late to contain the blaze effectively, with smoke already billowing from the structure.
The warehouse was closed on the previous Sunday, and Mr. Gounder mentioned there was no security present at the site during the incident. “This is our main warehouse, and all the products here are distributed to our five stores. We had just received about seven to eight containers of goods,” he explained. He further lamented the loss, stating that one container was left outside, intended for unloading the next day, but now nothing remains.
Tri-Dees Spare Parts operates as a direct importer and retailer, dealing in various items including general spare parts, car alarms, accessories, headlights, snorkels, and urethane products. The tragedy has left the company in a difficult position as they face significant losses and disruptions to their operations.
Authorities, including the police and the National Fire Authority, are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerabilities businesses face and the crucial importance of fire safety measures.
