Spread the love

The inaugural Namaka Volleyball Tournament is set to be held at Namaka Public School on January 17-18, promising to bring excitement to volleyball fans across Fiji. Organizers, led by Biu Tadranu, aim for the tournament to serve as a perfect lead-in to the Fiji Volleyball Federation’s National Club Championships.

Over the two days of competition, teams from the Western Division and North will compete, with six courts prepared at the school to accommodate the expected turnout of around 50 teams: 24 men’s teams, 10 women’s teams, and 16 mixed teams. Tadranu highlighted the excellent school facilities and noted that access to an indoor venue would ensure the games can proceed even in adverse weather conditions.

Participants will compete for significant prizes, with $2,000 awarded to the men’s winners, and $1,000 for both the women’s and mixed category champions. Registration fees are $300 for men’s teams, $200 for women’s teams, and $250 for mixed teams.

Tadranu emphasized the tournament’s objective to provide a constructive outlet for youth, steering them away from potential criminal activities. This event is not only about promoting volleyball but also about fostering community engagement and youth development.

With the tournament taking place one week prior to the National Club Championships, it offers an excellent opportunity for teams to refine their skills. The Fiji Volleyball Federation has endorsed the tournament dates, recognizing their importance in preparing clubs for future national competitions.

This tournament reflects a commitment to sport and community, showcasing the positive impact organized events can have on youth and the area. As the volleyball community gears up for this exciting event, it may well inspire greater participation and interest in the sport across Fiji.
