The inaugural Namaka Volleyball Tournament will occur at Namaka Public School on January 17 and 18, bringing an exciting opportunity for volleyball fans throughout Fiji. Organizer Biu Tadranu noted that the event serves as a warm-up for the Fiji Volleyball Federation’s National Club Championships, allowing teams to prepare and showcase their skills.

This two-day tournament will include three categories: men’s, women’s, and mixed teams, with around 50 teams expected to participate. Specifically, there will be 24 men’s teams, 10 women’s teams, and 16 mixed teams. To facilitate the games, six volleyball courts will be provided at the venue, and in case of inclement weather, an indoor facility is also available—an unusual but beneficial feature for such events.

The tournament offers a prize pool of $2,000 for the men’s champions, $1,000 for the women’s winners, and $1,000 for mixed teams. Registration fees are set at $300 for men’s teams, $200 for women’s teams, and $250 for mixed teams.

Tadranu expressed that the tournament’s goal extends beyond sports; it aims to provide youths with a constructive outlet, steering them away from criminal activities while promoting community involvement and youth development. With the timing of the tournament just a week before the National Club Championships, it prepares the teams for higher competition levels. The Fiji Volleyball Federation supports this initiative, underscoring its importance in fostering club readiness for the national stage.

This tournament not only celebrates the spirit of volleyball but also encourages community cohesion and the positive engagement of young people, setting a hopeful tone for the future of sports in the region.
