Namaka Public School (NPS) has received a significant accolade by being named the best primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024. This recognition, awarded by the Ministry of Education last Friday, has propelled the school into the running for a regional award.

Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed immense pride in the achievement, stating it serves as a motivation for the staff and management to continue enhancing educational delivery across all key areas. He emphasized the award has created a foundation to improve the learning environment, encouraging greater collaboration among stakeholders to provide holistic education for all students.

Established in 1962, NPS has served a diverse community of students from its local area as well as from further afield, including Lautoka and Korovuto. The school boasts a strong extracurricular presence, participating successfully in sports such as netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket. This past year, thirty-six students joined the Nadi athletics team for the national games, and the school has recently introduced swimming lessons for kindergarten students.

With a student population of 1,347 and comprising 33 teachers, the institution achieved an impressive 85 percent pass rate for students in the Fiji Year 8 examination. Many of these high-achieving students have secured placements at prestigious secondary schools for the following year.

The school is undergoing significant upgrades, including a newly constructed $400,000 multipurpose hall that serves as a venue for school events and can be rented out for additional income. Other enhancements include a walkway, a mini theatre, and investments in classroom technology, all geared toward enriching the educational experience.

Looking ahead, NPS has outlined a 10-year master plan that includes the construction of 15 new classrooms, a science lab, a library, updated washrooms, and a swimming pool, underscoring its commitment to continuous improvement and growth.

This achievement not only showcases the dedication of NPS to providing quality education but also signals a bright future for its students, as the school strives to establish itself as the foremost institution in the South Pacific.
