Namaka Public School Sets Sights on Regional Glory After District Win!

Namaka Public School (NPS) is celebrating a significant achievement by being recognized as the best primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024. This accolade, awarded by the Ministry of Education, has invigorated the school’s ambition to claim a regional award next.

Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed his pride and honor at receiving the award, sharing that the recognition has motivated the school management and teachers to enhance educational delivery across all key domains of teaching and learning. He emphasized the award presents a great opportunity to improve the learning environment and foster collaboration among stakeholders to provide a holistic education for all students.

Established in 1962, NPS, a multi-racial co-educational institution, services the local community and students from nearby regions, including Lautoka and Korovuto. The school currently has an enrollment of 1,347 students supported by 33 teachers, with 140 of those students in kindergarten.

NPS has not only excelled academically, with a commendable 85% pass rate for students sitting for the Fiji Year 8 examination, but it has also actively participated in various sports, producing teams that have enjoyed success in netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket. This year saw 36 of its students joining the Nadi athletics team for the national games, and the school has introduced swimming lessons for kindergarteners.

In recent developments, the school invested $400,000 in upgrading its infrastructure, including a multi-purpose hall used for various school events. Additional projects such as new walkways, a mini-theater, and enhancements in IT for classrooms are also underway.

Plans are in place for further growth as the school implements a 10-year master plan that includes the construction of 15 new classrooms, a science lab, library, washrooms, and a swimming pool, showcasing a clear vision for the school’s future.

This recognition and ongoing development reflect the dedication of the staff and the community’s support at NPS. With their aspirations set high, the school looks forward to not only maintaining excellence in education but also expanding opportunities for their students, fostering a bright future for the next generation.
