Namaka Public School (NPS) has recently received recognition as the best primary school in the Lautoka/Nadi/Yasawa district for 2024, an honor conferred by the Ministry of Education last Friday. This accolade has invigorated the school’s efforts to compete for a regional award and underscores its commitment to excellence in education.
Head teacher Arvin Kumar expressed immense pride in the achievement, stating that the recognition will motivate the school management and faculty to enhance their educational offerings. “We are aiming to make NPS the best in the South Pacific,” he affirmed, highlighting the school’s aspiration to elevate its learning environment further and foster cooperation among stakeholders to provide holistic education to all students.
Founded in 1962 and managed by local community members, NPS is a multi-racial, co-educational institution catering to a diverse student body, including those from the Lautoka and Korovuto areas. The school boasts a population of 1,347 students and 33 teachers, with 140 of those enrolled in kindergarten.
In addition to academics, NPS has a rich history in athletics, participating and excelling in various sports including netball, soccer, rugby, athletics, swimming, and cricket. A notable aspect of the school’s recent achievements is its contribution of 36 students to the Nadi athletics team for this year’s national games and the introduction of swimming lessons for kindergarten students.
Moreover, the school has made significant infrastructure improvements, including a new multipurpose hall, a walkway, and a mini theatre, totaling an investment of $400,000. These facilities not only serve the school’s events but also generate income through rentals. The school is also committed to modernizing its educational approach through technology integration in classrooms.
With a visionary 10-year master plan, NPS aims to construct 15 new classrooms, a science lab, a library, washrooms, and a swimming pool, indicating a promising growth trajectory.
This recognition serves as a beacon of hope for NPS as it continues to strive for excellence and aims to provide a nurturing learning environment for its students. The school’s commitment to holistic development bodes well for its future and that of its students.
